Copy Writing

By day I'm a copywriter at Red Ventures. A marketing and customer acquisition company, and the best place to work in Charlotte. I manage several different brands, writing everything from transactional copy and informational sites to the ads found on the back of grocery store receipts. Some of the brands I've written for at work include ADT, CLEAR, Miracle-Ear, Direct Star TV, Satellite Star Internet, Geek Squad, LifeShield, Office Depot and more.

I can't link to all the sites I write for because we're constantly tweaking things based on tests and sometimes changes are made by other writers. I did grab some screenshots of a few things I was fond of:

Here are some examples from the now redirected Geek Squad Business site I did:

Geek Squad 2
Geek Squad 3

And here's a page for XO Communications' small business presence:
XO Small Business

I also wrote two direct mail campaigns (someone has to write that junk mail you get) in the spring of 2011, one for Miracle-Ear and the other for Security Choice, an authorized ADT dealer.

I did all of the text on these three sites for SPAN Enterprises (note this was a long term contract that ended in November 2010, so they could have changed things since then):

www.expressextension.com
www.spanenterprises.com
www.unitwise.com

I wrote, recorded and produced more than 70 video guides and tutorials for UnitWise as well. I also conducted regular scripted webinars and social media seminars. Like the copy above, the videos have been replaced by someone new. You can see a sample video on my personal YouTube page here.

News and Magazine

I wrote for The Mecklenburg Times, a business newspaper in Charlotte, for a year. About seven months in we created a wordpress blog to post some of our stories. Unfortunately they took down the blog in mid-2010. I guess they hit that "free news" problem so many newspapers are struggling with. So the only way you can find my writing there is if you have access to some back issues. Lame.

I did manage to save a couple of articles though:

I won a North Carolina Press Association award–Third Place in Business Profile Writing–for a piece I did on Bookin’ It Mobile Bookstore. You can read it here.

And this article on a "green washing" business I came across got quite a few letters sent to the editor, hooray for reader response! Read it here

Magazine Writing
Fresh out of grad school I worked as the senior editor of TC Magazine, a positive magazine for teens. Here are a few of my articles:

Game Writing

Sometimes I get paid to play video games. Most of the time, it’s as fun as it sounds. Below you’ll find links to my reviews in the order that I did them and the system I played them on. I update this list whenever new reviews are posted.
